Ronald Rae Sculpture Trail
Artists are known for being obsessive but perhaps few are as physically and intellectually challenged as the Scottish Sculptor Ronald Rae when he stands alone with a hammer and chisel facing several tonnes of granite, one of the hardest stones in the world.
The Falkirk Wheel is delighted to showcase 12 of his creations within its grounds. The 12 hand-carved granite sculptures are mainly of animals, others of humankind. Each sculpture took many months to complete. The themes are topical with many levels of meaning to interest all age groups, encouraging debate and inspiring other art forms such as drawing, painting, prose, storytelling and photography.
